A fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Newhall Ranch Road and Bouquet Canyon Road on February 6, 2026, at 11:15 PM, resulting in two deaths and a critical hospitalization. Suspect A, whose name was redacted due to being a minor, was arrested on suspicion of a felony DUI and manslaughter. He was being held at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey until his court proceedings began on February 10. This event follows the new teenage curfew put in place by Santa Clarita Valley, and may impact how this law is carried out in the near future.

The deceased victims, Genry Ortiz Torres, 54, and Sylvia Lux, 49, were coming back home from a church community event with their 25-year-old daughter, Erin, when the crash occurred. Erin was confirmed to be hospitalized and in critical condition. Her brother, 27-year-old David Ortiz, gave ABC News a statement about his sister’s condition: ''She's definitely in some pain. Her wrist is very hurt. I mean, really, her whole body, she can't really move. As believers in Christ, we don't really understand a lot of things that happen, but we trust that God does it for a reason, and he's going to take care of us and help us to just overcome whatever comes our way.” Nevertheless, he still worries, as he’s just "trying to navigate emotions and make sure [his] sister's OK."

As the Santa Clarita Valley community mourns the loss of two lives and gives well wishes for Erin’s recovery, the tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of impaired driving. After this incident, local officials and residents may begin reevaluating how policies, enforcement, and education can better protect young drivers and the community at a large. For many, however, the focus remains on supporting the Ortiz family during this unimaginable time and reflecting on the importance of responsibility behind the wheel
