Behind every hardworking staff member is a lovable pet (or more) waiting at home! From playful dogs to sleepy cats, our staff pets each have their own unique personalities that brighten our days. We asked our staff to share their pets and the results were adorable!
Alfredo—owned by staff writer Myles Cline

Alfredo is a bearded dragon that may seem like a tough and scary creature on the outside, when in reality, he is just a loving pet that sits on his rock all day long. He loves hunting for crickets, even after Myles feeds him live food. Myles says that he just stares into the abyss; there are no thoughts between those eyes!
Bella—owned by staff writer Sara Gamini

Bella is just a cloud of fluff, especially as her breed, a ragdoll cat, is known for having such soft, fluffy fur. She is five years old and out of Sara and her siblings, Sara is Bella's favorite. Bella loves rummaging through trash around the house, and even though it has been advised for her not to do so, she eats the plastic she finds.
Oliver—owned by editor Emily Chang

As Emily puts it, Oliver is the closest to human a dog can be. His breed is maltipoo, although Emily suspects that he has a bit of terrier in him. Oliver is a mellow fellow, but he always gets excited when he ginishes his good or is around new people!
Burnie the Fatty (left) and Nibbles Weasley (right)—owned by staff writer Kaia Matsubara

These goldfish were won by Kaia’s sister in 2024 at a Halloween party and has been in Kaia’s life ever since. Even though Burnie has the word “fatty” embedded into his name, it is quite the opposite. According to Kaia, Nibbles eats way more food than Burnie and is larger than him (as seen in the photo above).
Yoshi—owned by editor Conner Chinn

Yoshi is an adorable shorthair cat that has shown a lot of love to Conner and his family. He was adopted in 2021 and is 5 years old. Yoshi’s favorite thing to do in his spare time is to have even more spare time; he does nothing and loves to sit around. Conner says that he is the best, even though he begs for food a lot.
Asmodeus (first photo), Boots (second photo), Frankie “Tank” (third photo), Beanie (fourth photo), photo of all dogs (fifth photo)—owned by editor Khoi Crow

Khoi’s pets each have their own unique personalities that make them unforgettable members of the family. Asmodeus, a 3-year-old grey tabby and calico mix, is described as Khoi’s “pride and joy.” Although calm most of the time, she is extremely vocal whenever Khoi is out of sight and is known for always staying close by unless she gets a sudden burst of energy. Asmodeus loves sunbathing, bird watching, and catching bugs that wander into the house. Boots, the family’s first dog, is nine years old and is a Maltese poodle mix with the personality of a grumpy old man. While he spends most of his time sleeping and barking at nearly everything, he still has his sweet moments. Frankie, better known as “Tank,” is a surprisingly agile pug who is believed to be around five years old. Despite his energetic appearance, he is the calmest of the group and usually nly gets excited when playing with the youngest dog, Beanie. Beanie, a terrier and pitbull mix, is full of nonstop energy and personality. She has heterochromia, with one blue eye and one brown eye, and the family believes she may be blind in her blue eye. Beanie never slows down and keeps the entire household entertained with her playful spirit.
Betty—owned by our teacher, Ms. Blok

Miss Blok’s pitbull mix is a joy to Miss Blok and to those around her. She got Betty recently, adopting her in March of this year. She is two years old and loves to sit around the house. She always is looking for treats, especially when she is taken on a walk. Even though they just met, Miss Blok absolutely adores Betty, even when Betty charges at her legs hard.
