Prom is one of the most anticipated days as a high school upperclassman. The excitement of the hyped-up school dance is a key landmark moment for many, from trying to narrow down the choices for your prom dress to taking pictures with your friends to enjoying the experience. When picking your prom dress for this season, be mindful of a new set of guidelines. The school has traditionally been more relaxed in recent years, but school officials have recently implemented a strict set of guidelines just a month before prom, and students are scrambling to find options.
The official dress code guidelines strictly prohibit dresses with slits higher than mid-thigh, necklines below the collarbone, and no strapless dresses. The school has also banned distracting patterns, so only plain colors and minimal rhinestones and glitter are allowed.
As many begin to fret about finding a new dress option, it will be well worthwhile because consequences range from being blocked admittance to the venue for my serious offenses to being required to change into a PE uniform. Of course, there are no guidelines for men’s suits, per usual.
Valencia High School has recently begun shifting the atmosphere at school by reinforcing guidelines. From necessary bathroom passes to stricter bans on phones, Valencia is looking to reinvent our school environment as more disciplined because it obviously helps the success of our students.
Happy April Fools'!
