Next year, major changes will be made to the Valencia High School schedule for the first time since 2022. Each day will be slightly longer than before as we will now end later. Now, every Wednesday will be a late start schedule, starting at 8:55, compared to the normal 8:30 for other school days. This is very different from the past few years because late start Wednesdays would only occur every other week. To combat this change, each regular school day will last five minutes longer, ending at 2:40, instead of the original 2:35.Â
This is not the first time Valencia has undergone drastic scheduling changes. In 2022, Valencia and the other schools in the Hart District transitioned from a ‘traditional’ schedule to a block schedule. Instead of six classes a day, the district decided that students would attend three classes a day, periods 1, 3, and 5 on Monday and Thursday, and 2, 4, and 6 on Tuesday and Friday. As well as all periods on Wednesday and starting at 8:55.
For students and teachers alike, this new schedule will be beneficial because there will be a time to get more sleep and catch up on work in the middle of the school week. While an extra 25 minutes before school may not seem like a lot, in reality, it is really helpful because there is time to complete extra homework in the library or rest for a little while longer. Additionally, it provides students the opportunity to collaborate with their teachers during period zero periods.Â
Good sleep is one of the most important things required to be efficient throughout the day. It is vital for students and teachers to get proper sleep at night. It is also important for students to seek help from their teachers. With this new schedule, which adapts to the conveniences of students and teachers, it should boost the efficiency of the Valencia High School academics.
