The NBA so far is keeping fans on their toes with a lot of big news and surprises. Starting off with the top players in the MVP race, the foreign dominance is emphasized with Shai Gilgeous Alexander from Canada in #1, Giannis Antetokounmpo from Greece at #2, Nikola Jokić from Serbia at #3, Victor Wembanyama from France at #4, and Slovenia’s Luka Dončić at #5.
As for the most notable teams, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Detroit Pistons are at the top of the West and East Conferences, respectively. However, the highly anticipated Dallas Mavericks, with the star duo of Cooper Flagg and Anthony Davis, proved to be a disappointment, ranking among the bottom teams in the league. Nico Harrison—the general manager of the Dallas Mavericks and the man behind the infamous Luka Dončić trade— has been fired, leaving Mavericks fans ecstatic. On the other side of the trade, Luka Dončić is making history, holding the highest points per game this season, scoring 200 points in the first 5 games.
Here in California, the Lakers are proving to be a playoff contender, thriving without an injured LeBron. The recent major acquisitions of Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart are helping out a lot. The Sacramento Kings and LA Clippers may be too old as they stand at the bottom of their division. The Clippers are going through multiple complications with their ownership. On the other hand, the Kings are missing some key players and are inconsistent. The Golden State Warriors are still a major threat in the West. If healthy, they could easily sneak a playoff spot, but with a stacked Western Conference, a deep playoff run would be a miracle.
As the season continues, it is clear that the 25-26 NBA season will be a historic one. As teams continue to surprise and disappoint, superstars continue to break out, and rival tensions increase, NBA fans won’t want to miss a single game this season.
