Q. How long have you played tennis and what inspired you to start?A. “I started playing tennis when I was around 8 or 9 years old, but I wasn't really playing very seriously. I started playing because I needed something active to do and it seemed fun, I didn’t put much thought into it. I started playing more competitively when I was in junior high school, around the age of 12.”
Q. What has playing tennis taught you about yourself
A. “Tennis has taught me control and strategy because of how the points are played out. The goal is not to hit faster; it is to control the ball and place it in the best spot.”
Q. Do you plan to continue playing in the future?
A. “I'll probably play more in the future for fun, but I will most likely stop playing competitively. It takes a lot of time and effort to play competitively outside of a school. It's a fun exercise though.”
Q. Is there anyone you look up to in the sport?
A. “I don’t really look up to anyone in particular since I haven't watched tennis very often; however, I do like Rafael Nadal since he is the best of all time.”
Q. Is there any advice you’d give to those looking into playing tennis?
A. “I would tell them to focus on controlling the ball more than hitting hard. I would also tell them to start getting tournament experience early, it will help playing matches.”
Q. What brings you the most joy in your life right now?
A. “I enjoy playing tennis of course but I also like playing games sometimes. School and sports keep me pretty busy.”
Q. What is something you’re proud of accomplishing?
A. “I'm fairly proud of my first year of tennis at this school. I played for JV with one of my friends in doubles at the ones spot. We ended the season undefeated as a whole team and my friend and I didn’t lose a single match. I had some good things happen on Varsity too but my first year felt great.”
