A Future for Type 1 Diabetes Cures

Those affected by diabetes can now breathe a sigh of relief. New advancements in Type 1 diabetes treatments are making management easier, and giving people a sense of freedom, and peace of mind. For example, A.I. tools such as “GlyTwin” are being incorporated into the lives of people living with diabetes, analyzing daily glucose behavior and suggesting meal timing, insulin dosing, etc. Scientists have also found ways to transplant lab-grown, insulin-producing cells into the human body causing big reductions in insulin need, and alleviating significant stress. A recent FDA approved drug, “Tzield” has also emerged, being capable of delaying the progression of diabetes by up to two years. Thanks to these futuristic advancements, Type 1 diabetes is becoming less of a burden.

"Legacy Forests" Established in Washington

In Washington, the Public Lands Commissioner, David Upthegrove, has declared 77,000 acres of forests to be removed from logging practices. Known as “legacy forests”, these trees are a mix of secondary forests and old growth forests. This means that they are woodlands that were once cleared but allowed to naturally regrow and also contain mature and complex structured trees. Additionally, legacy forests conserve more carbon dioxide than other forests and contain more biodiversity. Out of the 106,000 acres of legacy forests, it was decided that three-fourths would be sheltered from logging companies. The majority of the secured area is found in the Olympic Peninsula and Cascades range. Commissioner Upthegrove believes that by protecting this area, it is a small step in protecting the future generations and the climate.
