10,000 beds built in 24 hours:
In an effort to provide beds for children in need, Lowe’s pushed to build and construct 10,000 beds. More than 6,500 volunteers used around 214 miles of lumber, 739,000 wood screws, 2,000 gallons of stain, 17,5000 sanding discs, and 308,000 lumber cuts to build the beds in 24 hours. Many of the volunteers had their own reasons to participate in this project, Jenna Restepo states that she was “thinking about my own kids, I’m so fortunate to put them in their own beds”. For 24 grueling hours, the volunteers stamped, sanded, and stained for the better cause of getting beds to kids who did not have the ability to obtain them and to give them a safe place to sleep.
Robots break half marathon record:
On May 3, 2026 at the Beijing E-Town Half Marathon, a red robot, named Lightning, finished the race in 50 minutes and 26 seconds, faster than the current human record. Video clips of the robot circled the internet in waves, with some thinking of it as a milestone while others didn’t. The criticism mostly came from people like Rodney Brooks, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who claimed that the race was a “stupid publicity stunt. It’s like when they used to have horses racing cars.” But nevertheless, the public saw it as a cool example of how modern technology has become and how it is advancing everyday.
Half-blind, 12-year-old Dog Fights off Hungry Bear to Protect Family and Pets in New Mexico: “She’s our little savior”:
In New Mexico, a 12-year-old, partially blind dog named Maya bravely confronted a bear to protect her family's home. Despite her condition, she fearlessly charged at the bear, who just woke up from hibernation and was very hungry, to drive it away and keep her family's home safe. The incident occurred in a rural area that commonly sees bears around. Her owners noted that Maya was their “Little savior” and praised her actions as well as bravery. After the incident, Maya was immediately rushed to a clinic to get her wounds taken care of, which included a surgery to tend to the bites and scratches that she was afflicted with. Currently, Maya is said to be recovering at an amazing rate.
