The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina Italy was a very popular event, and can be considered a huge success for many teams, especially for Norway who was expected to dominate the winter olympics and of course Team USA.
In this year’s Winter Olympics, Team USA won a total of 12 Olympic Gold Medals, 12 silver medals, and nine bronze medals. Some of the most memorable medals include the Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey team wins over Canada, with both of their games won in overtime.
Mikaela Shiffrin and Breezy Johnson scored gold in women’s Alpine skiing and Jordan Stolz excelled in speed skating, taking home gold in both the 500m and 1000m events. Team USA also managed to clinch gold in the figure skating team event through an incredible display of talent and teamwork.
One of the more popular athletes this Olympics was Alysa Liu, the 20-year-old skater winning the first Olympic Gold in women’s figure skating in 24 years. Ilia Malinin, expected to win the gold, was overwhelmed by the pressure and did not skate well in the free skate. Elizabeth Lemley, Alex Ferreria, Connor Curran, Kaila Kuhn, and Christopher Lillis all took home three gold medals combined in Freestyle skiing and Snowboarding.
Overall, this year’s Winter Olympics was fun, competitive, and exciting to watch. It was a huge success for the USA in particular. It has shaped up to be an unforgettable event, and fans across the world are excited for 2028’s Summer Olympics taking place here in California.
