Summer Ideas

With summer fast approaching and the end of the school year coming into view, ideas and plans for what to do during the summer break are being formed. My main goal with this article is to help you with ideas as to what to do during the summer break, and how to spend your months of free time in an enjoyable way instead of rotting in bed like most of us.

1. Trip ideas

A great way to spend time with friends and family is to take trips. One recommended area to head to, which is still in California, is Calico Ghost Town! Located within San Bernardino County, Calico is an almost 200-year-old ghost town. From tourist attractions to a campsite with cabins for rent, Calico is a great place to explore with friends or family. It has multiple mine shafts for exploring, a graveyard with tombstones, and a saloon. Another recommendation is the Old Los Angeles Zoo, located in Griffith Park. This abandoned zoo is a great place to explore, especially at night, for the ambiance. It is open to the general public for exploration, as it was shut down in 1966. Benches and accommodations were built after its closure for those daring enough to explore its ruins.

2. Movies and Shows

If you much prefer to stay indoors during the summer, then here are three shows/movies that are worth your while:

  • Psych

    • A show made in 2006 and ran to 2014, it follows a self-proclaimed psychic detective, Shawn Spencer, and his pal Burton Guster as they solve murder cases before the Santa Barbara Police Department can. It has 8 seasons, a musical, and three separate movies. If you are a fan of detective shows, then you can watch Psych on Amazon Prime or Peacock.

  • Fallout

    • This show is an adaptation of the game series Fallout. It is set in a post-apocalyptic war, caused by nuclear weapons and mass destruction, and follows Lucy as she ventures out of her home, Vault 33, and into the vast wasteland that once was Los Angeles. It has one season, with a new one on the horizon. You can find it exclusively on Amazon Prime.

  • I

    • This is a live-action rendition of the game Detective Pikachu, made in 2019, which stars Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu. You follow Tim Goodman as he searches for his missing father, with a mysterious talking Pikachu by his side. With a run time of about one hour and forty-four minutes, this movie is a must-watch. It can be found on Amazon and YouTube for $4.

We hope your summer is filled with fun trips to abandoned areas and enjoyable times spent binge-watching television. Make sure to stay safe in your adventures into the unknown!
