As a sitcom lover and TV enthusiast, these half-hour comedies are a staple in some mindless relaxation and a nostalgic callback to my childhood. The sitcom genre has gone through many phases, and as a distraction from the current events of the world, I’ve leaned into a resurgence of my favorite TV genre. Here is my current ranking of the five best sitcoms.
5. Community
Community is based at the local Greendale Community College, with a mismatched group of individuals all on their own paths. I enjoyed watching the dysfunctional dynamic between the characters, and I felt the concept of a sitcom at a community college was unique to see.
4. The Good Place
The Good Place is an afterlife sitcom with two realities, the good place and the bad place. I loved how this show was never religiously affiliated, and it instead discussed morality in a comedic way. There’s also many twists and turns throughout the seasons that help keep viewers interested.
3. The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang Theory follows a group of best friends who are scientists. They work at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech) and their social situations. This show is very nostalgic for me, and I really enjoy watching Sheldon’s character develop.
2. Full House
Full House is a sitcom about three men raising three daughters all in one house. This is a classic sitcom that has many sentimental moments for the family that make it wholesome to watch. For me, this is the epitome of nostalgia.
1. How I Met Your Mother
How I Met Your Mother follows Ted Mosby as he tells his children the story of how he first met and fell in love with their mother. This is my favorite sitcom and comfort show, as I love the structure with the flashbacks and the tight-knit friend groups. The connection between the storylines also kept me interested for many seasons.
