Energy Drink Rankings

There are so many energy drinks currently on the market, from the popular Monster to the up-and-coming Alani. This ranking will hopefully help you decide what is best for you to drink, whether it’s for late-night study sessions or finishing missing assignments before the school year ends. Note that these opinions are purely subjective, and you are free to disagree with the placement of any of these drinks. I have tried all of these drinks and henceforth have incredibly strong opinions on them.

10. Prime

Prime is placed at number ten since it is headache-inducingly sweet and provides little to no energy. It is only labeled as an energy drink due to its electrolyte contents and is more of a sports drink. It is also mainly targeted to children under the age of 10 and is not a drink meant for people actually looking for caffeine.

9. Celsius

Celcius has a wide range of flavors, in which some are downright disgusting (case in point: Guava Kiwi flavor). Most flavors are hit and miss, with only a select few being enjoyable. It does have a higher caffeine content than Red Bull or Monster. It is best if you are looking for a good taste with low sugar and high caffeine content, but it is difficult to find a flavor that is actually enjoyable.

8. Bang

This is another sickeningly sweet energy drink, mainly targeted at people looking for some caffeine before a workout. It is not very popular, and mostly unremarkable, earning it spot 8. It has a caffeine content of 300 mg, which is 100 mg away from being the maximum you should consume per day.

7. C4

C4 is another pre-workout drink, and tastes less noxiously sweet than most. It is the best for gamers and those who work out, and is generally good. It is not the safest for your body, as people report vomiting and other negative side effects. This is why it earned spot 7. It is recommended that you don't drink more than one for your own safety.

6. Rockstar

Incredibly high sugar contents make this energy drink give you more of a sugar high and a caffeine boost. It is considered the most unhealthy energy drink on the market, but it has a high caffeine content. Like C4, it is recommended that you do not consume more than one per day.

5. Ghost

It has a caffeine content of 200 mg, which means it's safe to drink more than one a day. It has somewhat high sugar content, but not higher than the ones below it. It is generally considered to be one of the healthiest energy drinks on the market and is good for gamers.

4. Mountain Dew

I’d be burned at the stake if I put this any lower than it is. Mountain Dew has a very high sugar content, but it is a good source of energy and is less expensive than other energy drinks. You can have multiple per day, and it is one of the few energy drinks to have a zero-sugar option.

3. Alani

This is one of the newer energy drinks, and is surprisingly good. It has low sugar content and a wide variety of very good flavors. It is very popular and can be found at most grocery stores. Alani contains 200 mg of caffeine, meaning you can safely consume multiple per day, and its low sugar content does not pose the risk of any other health conditions.

2. Red Bull

One of the best energy drinks on the market, its unusual creamy taste makes it very enjoyable. This is recommended for those studying or trying to wake up in the morning. It has a wide variety of zero-sugar options, and is one of the healthiest ones on the market, but it is not the cheapest.

1. Monster

Monster Energy is by far the best on the market. It has a caffeine content of 160 mg, which means you can consume many per day. It has tons of zero-sugar options and is generally considered to be the best energy drink available.

It is highly recommended that you do not consume more than 400 mg of caffeine per day, and know how much caffeine you are drinking. For most of these drinks, do not consume more than 2 a day, and practice safe habits while you study.
